Yamaha to invest Rs 800 crore on capacity expansion

It comes to know that Yamaha, Japanese two-wheeler maker is planning to do investment of almost Rs 800 crore on capacity expansion as well as development of new product in the upcoming two years, since it plans to sell almost 10 lakh two-wheelers by the year 2014. The company, which has existence in India through its completely owned supplementary India Yamaha Motor Pvt Ltd has two plants, which has complete capacity to manufacture nearly 6.5 lakh two wheelers yearly.

“We plan to invest Rs 800 crore in 2012-13 on production enhancement, network expansion, and new product development,” India Yamaha Motor National Business Head Roy Kurian told reporters on the sidelines of the 11th Auto Expo here. Kurian also said that the company also seems to touch minimum 10-lakh capacity by the year 2014 from the recent 6-6.5 lakh. The company would even sell the similar in the domestic market too. According to Kurian, the company is also planning to enhance different segments including 150 cc since it is going to target almost 10 lakh sales in upcoming 2 years.

“We are looking at consolidating 150 cc segment, including FZ and SZ series and scooter segment. These initiatives will take us to the next level,” Kurian said. The company is also looking for enhancing its presence in the country by 2014. The survey has already been started by the company for land in Tamil Nadu and Karnataka to establish its third plant in the country.
