Volkswagen’s plant in Chakan near Pune has recently rolled out its 50000th car ever since the plant was set up two years ago. The 50000th car was a Vento and after achieving this feat, the company is determined to add more cars to its existing line-up at the manufacturing plant.

Volkswagen had set up the Chakan plant near Pune around 2 years ago. The plant currently produces three models, the Volkswagen Polo, Skoda Fabia and the Volkswagen Vento.

Volkswagen currently owns 61 plants globally and the Chakan plant is one with the most modern production facility. The plant follows all the procedures of making cars like press shop, body shop, paint shop and finally the final assembly. With a total financial commitment amounting to 3800 crores, the Pune Chakan plant is the largest investment ever done by a German company till date in India.

Touching the 50,000th car production landmark marks the beginning of Volkswagen’s next growth chapter in India. Realizing this target in just over a year’s time from the start of production is a testimony to the popularity Volkswagen cars enjoy in the Indian market. I wish the Volkswagen team great success for their future initiatives and I am confident that the team here will continue this momentum of growth,

Dr. Arno Antlitz, Member of the board of management, Volkswagen was quoted as saying on the occasion.

I would like to thank the team at Chakan for their undying spirit and motivation and congratulate them for demonstrating how much can be achieved in a very short period of time.

Dr. John Chako, Volkswagen group India President and MD was also quipped as saying.

Volkswagen also has expansion plans set to be implemented across India. It has a strategy to open dealership in select metro and tier-2 cities soon. Volkswagen is also looking forward to launch its 2 cars later during the year.
