Volkswagen Polo Vs Fiat Punto
This is it, style and power wrapped in ultimate showdown. On one side are the Germans and the other side are the Italians. One prefers luxury and features and the other prefers speed and style. Both of them are priced equally and in the same segment. The need of a hatchback car can arise when you wish to carry your world with you. The Punto has style and power which is unleashed at red line gear.

The Polo is new in the cradle of hatchbacks, at least in Indian market. The Polo looks smart and simple. Not to forget it has a German engine which lasts longer. Polo in comparison with the Punto is fair since both of them have same sized engines. The Punto has a turbocharger and that what propels it ahead of the Polo. Style stated vehicle which works according to your needs is the Punto. The Polo just works for the needs and not style. Well unless you have the right hand to power shift the vehicle.

Interior looks
The Punto is bit cramped up inside. The Polo on the other hand is beautifully carved with perfection. Very comfortable from inside and has space for everyone who wish to unlock the beauty of nature. The Punto is also comfortable but then you don’t get to rest as easily in the Polo. Both of them have the capacity to accommodate 5 adults with their luggage. Lots of features are added in both the vehicles which make the drive a bit easy. Safety features are also put to test in the car which ensures you are having a safe drive.

Engine and feel
The Punto is superb when it comes to power delivery. New engine which is tuned for performance is installed in the Punto. All you need to know is how to take the opponent down in minutes. The design of the engine is done according to new specifications. Bharat Stage 4 emissions have been incorporated in the new Punto and Polo. The Polo is designed for cruising. The Polo can turn into wonder on straights and curves. The Volkswagen engine is best when it comes to reliability. The Fiat engine is also reliable but maintenance is higher.

Handling quality
Both of them are superb when it comes to handling. You are literally gliding on water when it comes to driving the Polo. The reason behind smooth handling is its light weight engine. The Polo might not have a powerful engine but yes it is light weighted which makes it fast. Driving the Polo is easy since it has tuned engine. The Punto on the other hand is bit heavy to maneuver. It has a heavy and powerful engine which makes it difficult to maneuver. But driving the Punto is a great experience as the engine handles the way you wish to. You can cut corners with ease in the Punto and have a good time in relieving some office tension.

Time to go to the ATM
The choice entirely depends on which car you wish to have since one is German and the other is Italian. The returns on the Polo are higher than the Punto. If you want a car which can return good economy this is the best option. The Punto is bit more powerful but has more maintenance cost attached. Both are good, one is best for mileage and the other for power.

    Hi All,
    This article is just crap.

    1. Interior Feel-
Eventhough POLO looks sturdy its not, its designed exactle like a 1993 VW GOLF.
    2.Engine and Feel.
There is no doubt, PUNTO’s the best in terms of linear power delivery, cruising and sound deadaning. POLO’s sound at cruising speed will make you deaf.
    3.Handling Quality
POLO nowhere near PUNTO in handling.
4.I dont how can he say that maintanance is cheaper for POLO, its damn expensive. By the time you cover 15000 kms, PUNTO may cost y0u 4000/- but POLO more than 10,000/- and bonus would be beacuse of POLO’s unreliable electricals and engine.

This guy says returns are more, go to hell…..!!

In my family we have a polo and punto both diesels, PUNTO covered almost 7000kms and POLO around 4500kms. We are happy with punto for its comfort, service etc. and I am very very unhappy with the vw service, they consider POLO’s buyers as beggars (unlike their jetta, passat counterparts), labour is sky rocket, lot of niggling issues with the car (engine management lights comes on….soemtimes, bulb fuses)

Please dont confuse people, please be unbiased as they are spending their hard earned money to buy a car…!

I’m using Punto 1.3 Multijet diesel for the past 6months and guys let me tell you this… Punto is THE best car in its segment. I’ve tried all the other cars in its segment and nothing matches Punto.
Well built, Amazing handling/cornering and braking, Great pick and completely sturdy even at a speed of 163Kmph.
Two things that need improvements are a) Turning radius b) Ground clearance. But thats not going to stop you if you learn to handle it accordingly.
Highway mileage - 22 (Driving speed not exceeding 115 kmph)
City mileage - 16 (Average speed of 25 kmph)
City mileage - 12 (During heavy traffic - i.e. Driving between 5-20 kmph)

    I just love it . . . Punto Rocks!!!

    Hi all,

Nobody will believe. But its true. I have Punto 1.3 active. And anyone of you if you have unto diesel. try this.

    * Just start the engine.
    * put the car in 1st gear.
    * Dont put the foot on accelerator.
    * Leave the Clutch slowly.
    * Increase the Gears till its 5th Gear and still dont put your foot on the accelerator.

Your car will be driving on around 40KMPH and if you look at the “Present Mileage”. I would be showing the consumption of around 40-50 KMPL.

I have achieved it. I know you will say its stupid and its going to be very slow for the Highways. I am just telling you because the punto 1.3 MJD Engine is so fuel efficient that I covered a distance of 22 KM in around half a litre.

Hey guys i have a Fiat Punto Multi-jet Diesel engine and it rocks man its the superb car i have ever drive and polo is nothing to stand in front of Fiat Punto as Italian always believe on beauty and reliability.

Punto owners should proud on themselves and i desperately waiting for the Fiat Bravo which must launched in the end of this year by Fiat India.
And you know what guys????????? Fiat is planned to launch their own showroom in all over India from next year apart from Tata motors who copied all the technology of Fiat after collaboration.

    Hi All ,

This is pankaj here from bangalore …. I have just gone through this article of comparison between Polo & Punto as i have planned a car out of this two only but little confused ..Article reflects Polo superiority over Punto but feedback turns the story all around to Punto as the king of the segment .. I would appreciate the reviews if collegues who can guide which which one i should go for between the two & if possible Petrol & diesel also ???

    Hi,

Grande punto is superb car and great VFM compared to Polo, But its the showroom experience and service which is pulling such fantastic car in INDIA. Fiat needs to really think about the same if they need to excel in the market else it will again fade.I had recently purchased new punto the service experience which i got from the showroom is pathetic.

  18. hirankr responded on 09 Sep 2011 at 10:28 pm #

    Hi Pankaj,
As the feedback reflects punto as the best compared to polo, its true to me as well. I am using a 11 months old polo (covered 15300 Kms) did service of 15000Kms, ne service cost was 9500+. My brothers Punto covered 25000Kms (1.5 year old) done 15000Kms service almost 6 months back and spent 4500 for the service. Recently one more vehicle added to my family, a second hand JAZZ (covered 20K Kms -1 year old). Jazz interiors look like an aircraft cockpit thats it. I would tell you, people who has never ever used or even sit inside punto are commenting about the cheap quality (maynot be looking nice but then how people can digest swifts interiors rather exterior). I would say the interiors in punto will last longer than any cars mentioned here (imagine the letters in the dash board started to fade in JAZZ-in many places the dark grey colors changed to black (in corners)). Still after using almost 1.5 years punto looks the same from inside and outside. POLO in the mean time is 1.5X older than punto. I would say Punto is the best out of all other toyish cars. I think people who go for FIAT know about the brands and they are demanding and they have more know-how about cars. People who buy maruti never visits an authorised (90% of them) service centre, they never put genuine parts , hence maruti service is considered great. Recently my friend took his Wagor R to check his power steering. There are 4 authorised service centres in my city. The service centre guy coudnt crack the problem, he took it to all other 3 service centres, none of them coudnt solve it. They suggested him to replace the power steering motor which costs a whopping 25000/-. They adviced not to change it and keep using it, and also they said, most of the altos and swifts are having this issue, they know it but owners never knew it, thats the kind of people (mostly first time buyers) who prefer maruti, hence maruti is the best for those idiots.

    Hi!All experts…

I want to buy a petrol hatch.I am confused between Punto,Polo,Fabia & Swift.I would drive around 600-700kms per month only.

I would require a car which got strong body, good engine, comfortable seats, good handling, good ride, low maintainance and descent fuel economy.I would use it until it reaches scrap value!!

  21. Ydo responded on 14 Nov 2011 at 10:03 pm #

Dear expert, nothing comes close to india’s national engine aka fiat multijet. Polo leads the cases of blown engine and costs an i10 for repair. Suzuki prefering multijet over tdi was one of the reasons behind vw-suzuki split up. How on earth is polo’s engine more reliable and low on maintenance!?

    punto vs polo

comfort : having gd leg boot,gd space in car ,although u can carry more baggage. u dont feel anything sluggish regarding space, thats give u lot of pleasure during driving solid experience./while polo has less space, less leg boot , bt seat quality is best of the best very comfortable.

style: Its depends upon individual choice punto provide more sporty look while polo is very classy hve more sharp edges.

performance: here punto carry 4 cyl ,where polo with 3 cyl it doesnt mean that there is power difference both provide 76 bhp/4000 rpm bt fiat having silent engine bcz when u compare both cars above speed 100 then u can easily understand

quality: no matter polo carry gd plastic quality ,interior also nice very refereshing, while punto very cramped plastic quality.paint quality of polo is top notch very promising

UPDATE by fiat punto in 2012 model

increased ground clearence 185 for diesel model nd 195 for petrol

final conclusion :At last i would say at same price level fiat punto provides more features like abs nd ebd, like when v compare punto 1.2 dynamic model with, plolo 1.2 comfort line , u can easily compare.

    Polo vs Punto

I am planing to buy a base model premium petrol hatchback, Polo or Punto is in my consideration but really confused..!!!
I had taken test drive with both the cars and felt Punto little more silent than Polo but the handling & Interial comfort is feeling much good with Polo. Both feels having same power and Polo feels like little more sporty and luxurious. The Sales Rep. is telling me that Polo will be having more mileage than Punto.

I will be using the car for a maximum of 4-5yrs, Can any body suggest which will benefit me more.?
