The new VW Beetle was seen for the first time on the sets of a well-known American talk show. It was afterwards revealed officially at both New York Auto show and Shanghai Auto show.

Golf IV platform is used in the new Beetle. This new model will also come with few more features and crucial changes in its aesthetics as well as design. The new Beetle model is 84mm wider, 152mm long and 12 mm short as compared to the present model. Headlights of new Beetle will be available with an option bi-xenon headlight with LED daytime running lights. The company has also decided to reveal this new Beetle with three engine options such as a 2.0 litre TSI turbocharged Sport model with 200PS of max power, a 2-5 litre 5-cylinder engine with 170PS of max power and a 2-0 litre TDI diesel engine with 140PS of max power. A 6-speed manual will be normal whilst the 6-speed DSG will be an additional option.

For India, it has been expected that 2.0 litre diesel engine mated to an automatic gearbox would be present, as the combination is already there in different VAG cars such as VW Jetta, Skoda Superb, Skoda Laura, and VW Passat. The plans to release the new Beetle in the Indian market have not yet been revealed by the company. However, it has been expected that the new Beetle will be launched in the first quarter of the year 2012 to survive in the competition in the premium small car section that is going to expand soon with the future Mini brand.
