Ultra Motors Launches Electric Scooter - ‘Marathon’

Ultra Motor, UK- based EV (Electric Vehicle) manufacturer launched the high range electric scooter – Marathon, priced at Rs 31,047 at ex-showroom, Kochi in Indian market.
Marathon is primarily targeted at 24-plus year olds, riding a petrol scooter or a moped and who are looking at economy and utility.
- Mr. Deba Ghoshal (Ultra Motor India Director (Marketing)) told reporters.
The industry had set the sales target of 60K units during this fiscal. Last year, Ultra Motors sold 22K units across the India, in partnership with the Hero Exports.
In 2008-09, Ultra had the technical partnership cum joint marketing agreement with the Hero Exports to create and jointly market e-two-wheelers in Indian market.
They have the plans to invest Rs 140 crore in 3-years in product growth, marketing and supply.

Sir I’m very confused Please help me in choosing the right e-bike for me
I live in Indore [m.p.]. There are four brands.
[1]-Yo bike
[2]-TVS Teenz electric
[3]-Princy e-bike (walkman world)
[4]-Oreva e-bikes
Or should I go for another good brand in any other city? Like–
1 - Ultra Motors
2 - Hero cycles
3 - Atlas cycles
Or another brand not listed above
I’m handicapped and can drive a two wheeler with rear side wheels atteched on both sides.
My needs are—
1 - Everage upto 70 km single charge with load 100 kg
2 - Load carrying capacity 120 kg at least
3 - Easy availibilty of spare parts
4 - Long battery life [at least 15,000-18,000 km
5 - Less running cost
6 - Good and reliable service backup

Hi Sir,
I would suggest you to wait for some more time as the electric biking concept is fairly new in india.
Avalibility of spare parts would be a concern even with good brands . And as you are planning to attach two more wheels the average milege and the carrying loads would decrease much.
Eko motrs are planning /have launched a new bike will 800 v motor.
You may want to check their website. I am not sure if they have dealership in indore.

Dear sirs,
I bought ULTRA marathon in march 2nd in chennai.
It is going good and wonderful in terms of medium speed, petrol saving, ecko friendly.
The price seems little high and my comments after riding this.
1. The front and rear shok absorber should improve more as existing one is not effective even for single rider
2. The seat style is more downwards front side, it should be straight as in motor cycle.
3. Instead of acid battry, you can sell litheon battry which gives triple mileage and fast charger.
4. The speed or torque should be improved little more, when raiding in bridge single and double it is going 10 to 12 km which is problm in riding.
5. Tyre size alsocanbe improved as it gives imbalance many times.
Awaitng for the day when i get litheon battery, if you bring u can also arrange exhange for the existing battery.

I am very unhappy with ultra marathon, which was purchase on last year. Still date i am facing battery charging proble, average problem, front wheel jumper problem, accessory was not proper fitting and also speed problem.

I am the owner of your ultra scooter sicne 2nd march 200.
My suggestion is
1. Battery should be lietheon battery for more mileage.
2. seating should little height in front side for convenient.
3. initial pickup is very slow so make little fast.

my suggestion is please don’t go for ultra motors any type of scooters. firstly the technique is new. not enough service centers to take care. battery problems.
i am having a ultra velocity which was bought during the month of may 2008. you don’t believe so far i have spent rs.15000/- for repairs and replacements. hence my sincere advice is not to go for electric bike especially from ultra motors. if you want any clarifications you can contact me thru 9444934992

I purchased one ultra velocity scooter during feb 2008 .Within a run of 4400 KM the battery had to be replaced costing Rs 8000. I advice people not to go for eletric bike till quality of battery is improved

I bought a marathon in nov08
the following comments are offered
1.both the shock absorbers are poorinspite several requests the defects are yet to be rectified.
2.charger often to be replaced
3.tyres are narrow and have poor road grip
4.brakes wear frequently and cable replacement insufficent
5.lithion battery with longer life would be apt
6.spares to be provided aptly

Till date i am facing lot of problems intermittently and repaired several times and spend thousands of rupees …
The total purpose of spending around 80 thousands on two vehicles is in vain.
We have made “Y O U ” RICHER BY 80 THOUSANDS and got a TROUBLE FULL VEHICLE which is most of the time is in the garage for repairs.
1. Battery charging having problem ie., it does not retain the charge for long and needs frequent charging
2. Average of mileage is very poor.
3. Wheel has a problem of getting jammed suddenly.
4. Speed very very slow NO PICKUP.
PLEASE ask your company executives to CHECK on my problem.
RATHER…… I WULD PREFER TO GET MY MONEY BACK AND VEHICLE RETURNED. AS THIS VEHICLE HAS GIVEN US TOO MUCH OF NIGHTMARE.

In that one vehicles battery has been replaced IMMEDIATELY AFTER 9 MONTHS.
AND AGAINNNN Last month vwhicle had little problem of breaks getting jammed , was sent for repairs and was charged with 2000/- , After 15 days it was given ….. but from the next day it stopped working. And now the company says that the battery is gone….hv to be changed and it will cost 10,000/=
Well if the battery life is only 9 months then????????

I too purchased one marathon by spending Rs:33000.It got several problems.During the first year the bike was in service station minimum 2 weeks every month.At the end of 9 months battery has gone. I didn’t get proper service from both dealer and the company.My humble request don’t purchase this scooter.

i have purchaced ultra merathon in november 2008 in 37000/-..and i m suffering so much from this.. i have spent approximatly 20000/- to repairing.. i m so unhappy.. after 6 months from purchasing battery was heating and i changed it in 8000/- but after 3 months new battery is also getting heated………..
not only battery but there r many other problems with this like very low qulity of tires and tubes, break wirs, and swtch of key….
now tell me ” meri gadi second hand bik sakti h ya fir raddi wale ko free me deni padegi”

Bought a Marathon Bike of ULTAR MOTOR as it is Eco friendly. But it is very expensive in terms of maintenance. Components are getting loose due to poor bolting system and electrical & other components failed frequently. Nowhere Parts are available. To get service is an Headache.
I can say to keep Marathon Bike is a burden. I understand company does not sell parts to any spare-parts shop. Unless its part are not commonly available in the market. This product will not get popularity & it will die in near future. Hope company will act before that time.

I was thinking to purchase an ebike but my friends told me the maintenance cost is high and frequent failure of battery is a big problem. If any body is having different openion please comment.

Ultra Motors is closed long back. Still all Ultra Motors dealers are selling Ultra Electric bikes to customers by misleading them that it carries one year warranty. When the company no longer exists. Customers trust the dealer and buy these vehicles. Once the payment is made, the nightmares starts for the customer. Even if the vehicle rear wheel is punctured, the dealer mechanic will have to fix it. No general puncture shops will be able to fix the rear wheel puncture. Then , If you go for any warranty related issues, then you will get the surprise of your life. He will not pick up your phone and always say that the mechanic is on leave. And that, the spares have been ordered and advance payment made. But still sparers have not yet arrived from the company. etc…………etc,…………
You keep fighting with him and he shows a cold shoulder to you.
