Toyota to Bring Prius to India

Toyota is planning to bring its small car, Prius in India. Toyota Kirloskar Motors declared that this new car will also have a diesel variant. It is expected that the car will launch in December 2010. The company will roll out this model from the Bidadi plant near Bangalore in 1.3L and 1.2L engines.

As a joint venture with Kirloskar Motors, Toyota Motors marks its existence as Toyota Kirloskar Motors (TKM) in India. The Indian arm of Japanese auto manufacturer stated that the project of Toyota’s small car has been completed 50% and the car will be available for the people in next 22 months.
This small car will be available in Sedan as well as hatchback versions. The higher extent of localization of the car will keep its cost competitive in the markets of India. The company is aggressively concentrating on its small car project and is also expanding network of dealership in India from its 82 dealerships to 150 dealers by the end of year – 2010. The company is also thinking to bring its financial arm – Toyota financial Services in India.
