Toyota Set up New Engine Plant; Eyes Fringe Benefits

We had reported few days back on how foreign auto companies are targeting Indian car market to assemble their top-end sports utility vehicle (SUVs).
Taking a cue from the same, one of the big players from the horizon of automobile, Toyota Kirloskar has decided to utilize advantage India to set up new engine plant for its Etios model here.
The Indian unit of the Japan based leading car maker, Toyota Kirloskar today expressed that it would manufacture engine and gear boxes for its upcoming small car, Etios in the Indian car market at the company’s recently started plant.
To give you a glimpse, Toyota Kirloskar Auto Parts (TKAP) is a sister concern company of TKM and has currently 2 plants in India. With an investment of more than 500 INR on the setting up these 2 plants, the company is set to lower the production cost as costs of all types are low in India.
The first plant has an overall capacity of 52,000 engines annually while the second plant produces a whopping 1, 70,000 units of gear boxes per annum among which majority of them are exported to Thailand & Argentina.
The company has plans of investing an additional sum of Rs 500 Crores in its facilities in the Indian market. With this investment, the company plans to take the production of gear boxes to 2, 40,000 units per annum along with establishing a third plant in India with a production capacity of 1, 00,000 engines annually
An executive from the sources of company was stated as saying on the future plans.
Toyota India is known for its superb range of product line and its customers are amongst the satisfied one.
Toyota has sold a total of 55,000 units of its models in the Indian market and aim to take this figure to a magical 70, 000 units. Also the company is expecting to score in the sales of its Etios model, doubling the sales to 1, 40, 000 models by 2011.
Meanwhile, Toyota Etios which is being produced exclusively for Indian market and showcased at the Delhi auto expo is expected to roll out on the roads by the end of December, 2011.
