Tata Set to Launch Crossover, new Indigo
Posted on August 25th 2008Welcome back!
After launching the Indica Vista, Tata Motors is planning to launch the next generation and all new variant of Indigo and cross over vehicle between Sumo and Safari.
We will be unveiling the crossover Safari and Sumo, which was displayed at the Auto Expo two years back. This will be followed by the next generation Indigo, probably on the same platform as the Indica.
- Mr. Rajeev Dube (Tata Motors passenger cars division president) said.
Mr. Dube also said that the industry is planning to launch next generation editions of the sumo and Safari. The industry has spent Rs. 1700 crore on latest Indica platform. According to him, the company could sell more than 12K to 13K units a month (new models).
Mr. Dube said that strong micro trends were probably to maintain pressure on the cars sales this fancial year.
We feel that overall industry sales growth will be in high single digit percentage points this fiscal against the 11.7% in 2007-08.
He also added that Land Rover was planning to expand its distribution network even as the auto manufacturer was looking at chances to bring the Jaguar.
Land Rover is already present in India in Mumbai in a small way though a distributor. What we understand from our colleagues in Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) is that they are looking at expanding Land Rover’s footprint in the Indian market in a fairly aggressive manner in the near future.
- Mr. Dube said.

That sounds good. I think this Tata has become very aggressive on its expansion plan in India. First it launched the Indica Vista, ready to launch the Nano and the launch of crossover model is also expected to be followed by next generation Indigo.
