Tata Nano Launched. World’s Cheapest Car

Tata NanoToday (10th January, 2008) Tata Motors has launched the world’s cheapest car - “Tata Nano.” The car was unveiled by Ratan Tata, Chairman of Tata Group, in Auto Expo today. The car is priced at Rs. 1 lac (Rs. 100,000) for the dealers. The car will be commercially launched in second half of 2008.

Here are some specs about the Tata Nano, the car:

  • Length: 3.1 Meters
  • Width: 1.5 Meters
  • Height: 1.6 Meters
  • Seating Capacity: 5
  • Space Comparison with Maruti 800: Lengh is 20% less, Volume is 20% more
  • Engine: 623 CC, 33 Bhp, 2 Cylinder, Rear Mounted
  • Transmission: 4 Gear Manual
  • AC: Rs. 1 Lac version will not have AC. Deluxe version will have AC.
  • Max Speed: 100 Kmph
  • Fuel Efficiency: 20-23 Kmpl
  • Price: Rs. 1 Lac (dealer price without VAT)


Before the launch of the car, there were lots of speculations in the markets that the car may not very safe or environment friendly. But Ratan Tata said that the car has done crash testing and passes all required safety norms. Car is also environment friendly and will comply with emission norms of Bharat III and Euro 4.

Ratan Tata called this car “People’s Car”. Tata has really done what they said they will do. Yes, he kept his promise.

    Tata Nano is really a wonder and I don’t know how Tata managed to do that.

    All other companies like Maruti, Mahindra &Mahindra, Fod and GM were saying that if it is a one lakh car, then it will surely be not safe and with pollute our environment. But Tata gave the reply with “Euro 4″, “Bharat III” and “Crash Tests”.

    Wow Tata! Ratan, you rock.
