Posted on June 18th 2010Welcome back!

The whole concept of this article is to bring awareness in car owners who suffer from damages incurred on their car due to bad weather. Rains are approaching and you need to be geared up to take good care of your car. Since there are lots of damages faced in the past it is essential to gear up and face the weather. It’s a known fact that prevention is better than cure. Every step has time and it needs to be taken when its time to make the move.Always ensure that your car is in top working condition. You can give it for servicing at the moment as the rains have not swung their magic wand. Servicing of the car will take good care of the interior and exterior components. It will ensure the car technically and have a long life ahead. You can get your car polished before the rains. There are different types of Teflon coating protection than can be availed from various car dealers. Teflon coating protects the car’s panels and metal parts.
Chances of rusting and chipping are less when to the car is Teflon coated. It will also assure that paint of the body panels does not fade away due to heavy rainfall. There are different types of polishes available in the market that can be used for Teflon coating. You can perform polishing your car at home too. All you need is a soft buffer which can be rubbed on body panels. Make sure you have washed the car before applying polish. Let it dry up completely so that polish does not slip away or starts dripping while applying it on the car. Rub the applied polish with a dry cloth till it sets on the panels.
Always carry the tool box when out in rains. You might never know when you might have a flat tire. The tool kit should have all the necessary tools than can help in tire changing and repairing minor problems. Keep the spare tire filled with air so that you have it ready when there is a puncture. The battery of the car is an important component. The car starts with the help of a battery, if the battery is having problems you need to get it checked. Keeping the water up to the brim will help in generating a quick charge.
Apart from filling the battery to the brim also ensure the battery is fully charged and does not contain dead cells. Apply petroleum jelly on the connecting point of the battery. Petroleum jelly will keep the battery dry, grease is also advised but it damages the battery outlet joints. You might have your hands dipped in black oil after applying grease, petroleum jelly acts a substitute to grease.
Always ensure that the air filter of the car is serviced well. Dipping it in petrol and keeping it dry for some time will ensure quick start and clean burn of fuel. The air filter is the inlet for air to pass inside the engine. If the air filter is due to replacement then you need to ensure a free flow air filter on your next purchase. A free flow filter will increase the horse power of the car. It will have a clean intake in the engine which will burn every drop of fuel. It will avoid wastage of fuel which can lead to low fuel economy. There are two or three major brands which can be considered when it comes to air filter.
Even the oil filter needs to be changed when rains are approaching. Keeping a rubber mat instead of usual leather mats will avoid dust and mud to spoil the material. Rubber mats can be washed when they are dirty. Use of high octane fuel especially in rainy season is advised. It helps in clean burning and keeps the engine out of trouble. At times water can sweep inside the engine parts, there is a need to ward off that water before it enters the combustion chamber. Use of greener fuel will keep the engine warm and ensure there is no water inside the combustion chamber.
If there is a need to change the oil due to exhaustive kilometer reading then use of synthetic oil will help. Synthetic oil keeps the engine warm. In rainy season you can expect a chilly morning where the temperatures will be close to 10 degrees or below that, in such conditions use of synthetic oil will help a lot. It has the capacity to turn the engine on at low temperatures too.
Checking of tire treads should be done before taking the vehicle out of the garage. Thickness between two treads must not be more than 3mm. If the tire treads are out of shape then there is a need to replace in due time. Changing to wet tires will increase the overall grip of the car. You can easily counter steer or have enhanced control on any terrain. Also check the sides of the tires, most of the tires are wide in shape and have increased control.
If these tips are followed you can have your car in top condition. Also ensure not to park the car under a tree or besides a street light. There are chances where the tree might uproot itself due to wind. The same planning goes with electricity polls. Keep the parking light on if there is heavy rainfall. It makes you visible to others who are driving on the same road. Parking lights can be switched on while driving if there is heavy rainfall. Driving with parking lights on is not a traffic violation provided visibility is close to zero.

Is it necessary to paint the under body with boardblack?

Not necessary. You need to protect the car body with different types of polishes which are available at the service center. Painting with color black will heat up the body.
