Skoda to Launch Green Fabia

Skoda the Czech car manufacturer will launch the all new low-cost ’successor’ to its Octavia sedan inn India that would be cost below Rs 10 lakh and roll out their low emission environment pleasant “greenline” Fabia range, presently being sold in main European market.

The company has been producing efforts to raise their share in Indian market and wants to place their cars as the ‘lifestyle’ brand.

Skoda entered into India in 2001, though limiting its run to luxury sedans such as Laura and Octavia. But, it built the thrust into hatchback segment early this year with Fabia

Skoda sold 14187 cars in last fiscal against domestic company’s volume of 12.03 lakh cars. Mr. Kuehl said that new products wouldn’t be launched in volume segment, but would be loaded with the style measure. “We want to create products that are more niche.”

Skoda is also planning to get in “greenline” range. The 1st greenline to be assembled in the India could be on Fabia, Mr. Kuehl said.

Octavia successor will be out in 1 to 3 years, could sport 1400cc TDI diesel and 1400cc petrol TSI engines. Presently, luxury sedan comes strapped with 1900 diesel and 1800cc petrol engine, and its on-road cost is Rs 12.05-14.55 lakh (diesel vrsion) and Rs 11.19 lakh (petrol version).
