Yes, going with the wave, Skoda has timed it up correctly and recently launched its hatchback called Skoda Fabia in an attempt to find and rather make a place in the cut-throat Indian automobile market.

The company has launched it as its refreshed version but has not christened it by any other name.

It has got the 1.6 liter petrol engine option which makes it an altogether a very strong car in its class.

The new Skoda caters to larger group of people who want a premium hatchback, with the best of technology, safety and practicality in their car, yet accessible price range with an improved value for money proposition

Mr. Thomas Kuehi, Board Member and Director, Sales and Marketing, Skoda Auto India was quipped as saying on the launch of the redone model.

Apart from the new 1.6 liter version, Skoda would also continue to launch its earlier 1.2 liter version, too in its three usual trims, i.e., Classic, Ambeinte and Elegance.

One of the key factors of the Fabia remains its safety, with double front airbags across all the variants as standards.

The three versions of the model are available in Cappuccino Beige, Brilliant Silver, Candy White, Flash Red and Deep Black and priced between 4,35,000-5,68,000 INR for ex-showroom, Delhi and between 4,19,000-5,50,00 INR for ex-showroom, Maharashtra.

1.6 liter is priced at 5, 99,000 and 5, 81,102 for ex-showroom, Delhi and ex-showroom, Maharashtra, respectively.

With many more launches being readied in the months to come by, it’s surely going to be a tough tussle for supremacy amongst the auto biggies and no prize for guessing who the beneficiary of the whole pie would be the customer.

With the experience of Tata Aria visit still fresh in my mind, I was in a dilemma when I was asked to visit the showroom to have a first hand experience of the new Fabia. The reason was simple-with the kind of regard I had for the old Fabia, I didn’t want to see a stripped down version and change the image I had in my mind of the first true luxury hatch in India. But, I was left with no choice and had to go to check her out.

One first look at the car and I slightly felt comfortable. The car, though cheap by around 70k compared to the previous avatar, did not look as bad as I had expected. Instead, the fresh new face, with the wider peeled headlamps and bold new grille and the monstrous looking fog lamps, gave it a character, like some of its higher priced siblings. The flow lines from the sides of the bonnet gel with the upper grille so well, and looked inviting. The lower grille had also received fair amount of makeup, and with the low air dam at front, the car gave an impression of a toned up version of the old Fabia. The car length has also been increased by 8 mm and comes quite close to the line of control between a compact and an entry mid car. The height has also, gone up by 8mm, and the ground clearance by 12mm, which is…huge.
