“One Component One Gram” Program by Maruti

To cope up with the more efficient production systems and constant price reduction drives, Maruti Suzuki India has currently introduced the “one component one gram” drive which will reduce a weight of each Maruti car by a 2.5 kg and will bring into the net savings of rs 10 crores for the industry.
With no other changes, lighter cars would mean additional fuel efficient ones. This program was firstly introduced by O Suzuki, Chairperson & Chif-Executive Officer, and Suzuki Motor Cop in Japan about the month back and has been repeated in a India also.
Each Maruti car has approximately 10K components and subcomponents which can be sorted I 1500 categories.
According to the company spokesperson, decrease in weight by 1gm in every component would build the car lighter by 2.5kg, which when performed out at the rate of Rs 50 per kg would mean the savings of Rs 130 per unit to company.
Maruti created more than 7.5 lakh units last fiscal, and a net savings thus could add up to Rs 10 crore.
Besides, the drive would mean providers having to re-build their design and making processes. The policy was transmitted to vendors at a annual supplier summit by S. Nakanishi, MD, Maruti Suzuki India less than month back.
According to industry officials, the response is positive. They had 215 direct providers, who in turn working tier II suppliers.

Good that Maruti is planning to get lighter vehicles in India this is really an amazing concept. In the recent days we all are seeing bulky and huge cars but no one had thought to get the lighter vehicles. This is a good chance to have unique cars from Maruti.
