Now, Nano to Run on FEV’s Diesel Engine
Posted on July 14th 2008Welcome back!
Tatas will strap on the diesel engine built by German powertrain manufacturer FEV on the Up-Coming Nano.
FEV is the independent engine and powertrain system research, design and development industry, situated in Aachen, Germany. Mahindra & Mahindra is also functioning with FEV for their electric-diesel hybrid Scorpio.
Even though Tata Motors has not launched their Nano – the petrol version – equipped with 623cc 2-cyinder, MPFI engine with 4-speed manual transmission. They already announced the diesel as well as hybrid in pipeline.
By and large we’ve always been a diesel company so we will have a diesel version that will follow this variant soon after.
- At its premiere in the Auto Expo earlier this year, Tata Motors chairman Ratan Tata had said.
The car will feature the 800cc, turbo charged, CRDi diesel engine. The Diesel-version Nano will possibly introduce in 2009. The Bosch is functioning on CRDi system and Honeywell Turbo India is on the turbo charger.
The 800cc CRDi, turbo charged diesel engine will be 2-cylinder and crank out minimum 30 percent extra mileage compared to 800cc petrol versions. Known that currently the smallest D-engine in India is a 1.3L fiat multijet CRDi engine which Suzuki has strapped on to Swift and both Fiat and Tata will utilize in their future models, the Nano will provide minimum 40 percent better fuel-efficiency than other mini diesel-models presently available.
