Tata, the Indian car manufacturer selected an area in Singur, India for the factory that would build the Nano, the cheapest car of the world. But, 11-petitions were filed in a Calcutta High Court saying that the buy of this land for the plant violated the 1894’s Land Acquisition Act.

It was alleged that the Bengal government powerfully took ’fertile multi-crop agricultural land’ from the farmers for the industrial utilization, which is not allowed.

Previously, the Calcutta High Court found in support of the Gov. of West Bengal & Tata. But now another petition has been submitted with Supreme Court of India over the issue, and the court has asked the Tata and West Bengal government to respond.

The issue is that the car Nano is supposed to arrive on sale in October – but the next hearing over this land use petition would not be held until the July.
