M&M Reduces Scorpio Cost by up to Rs 70,000
Posted on March 6th 2009Welcome back!
Mahindra & Mahindra has launched the upgraded models of Scorpio and has reduced the cost of premium SUV by Rs. 34000 to Rs. 70000. Now, the Scorpio is available at a price range of Rs. 7.21 lakh to Rs. 9.2 lakh.

In addition, the company said they may reduce costs of Bolero, but would increase prices of their multi purpose vehicle Xylo.
The launch of new Scorpio is a well thought-out move. The company conceived the idea before the introduction of Xylo, but could not make it public for obvious reason. Now, the cannibalization between the two products will come down. However, there will be some cannibalization, which we are okay with.
- Mr. Pawan Goenka (President automotive sector) said.
Scorpio had lots of scope for cost cut as several new and costly technologies (e.g. tyre pressure sensors & rain sensing wipers) were used in it. Nowadays, after 1 & 1/2 year of its launch, the prices of all these technologies have fall. But costs of Xylo would increase by Rs. 10K - Rs. 12K, he added.
M&M has replaced 2.6L CRDe engine SUV with a new advanced 2.2L mHawk engine. The new Scorpio is a muscular vehicle and it has a fresh front grille, bonnet scoop, headlights, fog lamps, embossed side shield, bumpers, door handles, seats, upholstery, rear integrated foot-step, parking brakes and a digital immobilizer.
