M&M Plans to Introduce Hybrid and Electric Vehicles

Mahindra & Mahindra, a passenger car and commercial vehicle manufacturer has announced to launch a fuel efficient hybrid and electric vehicles in near future.On the sidelines of third Styling & Design conclave by SIAM (Society of Indian Auto Manufacturers), Mr. B. Bhaumik (M&M, Head-Design) said that they want to develop technologies for the hybrid and electric vehicles. In few years, they will introduce such kind of vehicles.M&M already has made plans to introduce some products from its Ingenio platform in a coming 2 years.
India’s automotive designing has a big potential. We need a design development institute for the automotive sector, which should be developed in public-private partnership and function as a professional training centre.
- Mr. Ichiro Hatayama (Tokyo Design International Inc’s CEO) said.India must work hard to produce superlative car designers, Mr. Hatayama said.He added that there would be a standard shift in an automotive sector between FY 15 to FY 25, when the requirement for the fuel-efficient hybrid vehicles occurs.
M&M is spending Rs 100-crore per annum on productive segments, which includes software development, prototyping, testing and in-house infrastructure to develop new models.

M&M is expanding its product portfolio. It is already very popular with its SUVs and the hybrid and electric version will further strengthen its position in the Indian car industry.
