Mercedes to Explore India to Garner Sales Benefits!
Posted on August 24th 2010Welcome back!
The year 2010 has been a superb one for Mercedes till now, with company recording enormous sales records month after month and also the coveted launch of its E-class Cabriolet.
These kinds of stats are set to take Mercedes on a roll and ahead of the competition from its arch rivals, Audi and BMW.
In order to cut loose in its endeavor to march ahead of the competition in the market, the company has up its sleeve a unique strategy and that’s to enter sales in an aggressive mode in Indian tier 2 and 3 cities and also target the corporate majors to ensure that it stay ahead in the Indian luxury car segment.
To provide you a sneak peek to the whole idea, the company is destined to open dealership ventures at Jaipur, Indore, and Bubhaneshwar after having opened the same earlier at Surat and Goa, recently.
There is pressure building in top Indian companies like Infosys, TCS, etc, for a change in their car policies. When senior executives of these companies go abroad, they routinely use luxury cars but not in India. For us, the two major drivers for sales in India in the future are this mindset change among Indian companies and demand from Tier II and III towns
We expect 15-30% of our total sales to come from upcountry (Tier II and III) cities. Among the states, with strong demand from smaller towns and cities are Gujarat and Kerala. We will target the mining states later.
Wilfried Aulbar, Managing Director, Mercedes India was quoted as saying on auto major’s bigger plans for smaller cities across India to reap huge sales benefits.
Well, of late, not only auto companies but companies of diverse natures have realized the potential of the smaller Indian cities and wanting to exploit the same to stimulate substantial and fringe benefits.
With Mercedes going all out to do the same, it would be interesting to see in coming days as to who would follow suit.
