Mercedes-Benz Eyeing Small Car Market

Posted on February 2nd 2011

Welcome back!

MercedesIn India, small is big. Every car manufacturer has been vying to get a significant share of the small car market and this has really surged up after the launch of Tata Nano.

The turnaround Ford has managed with the super success of Figo has changed all the rules of playing out there in the ever fluctuating Indian B-segment market. While it looks obvious to understand for the mainstream car makers to strive for this space but even premium car manufactures much to the surprise of the mass are also set to take the same route.

Yes, you have heard that absolutely right. If you thought that only normal car makers could make small or low-priced cars, you are set for a pleasant surprise as none other than Mercedes-Benz, one of the most influential premium and luxury car makers in India has decided to cash on the opportunities of the Indian small car market and launch its small car especially made for India.

If some market sources are to be believed, Mercedes is planning to bring in a small car made for India with prices less than its C-class models. If that’s the case, it does make a great business sense.

Mercedes is also looking to modify its small platform to suit the Indian conditions. Mercedes-Benz may also use its alliance with Renault-Nissan to develop a cost effective model for India.

If all goes well as being planned, we may soon see Mercedes compacts zipping past on Indian roads.
