Due to great success of diesel models (Dzire & Swift), Maruti Suzuki India plans to launch the diesel engines in its other car models.
Maruti Ritz, the car to be launched next month, will come in diesel version also with 1.3L engine.
There is a good demand for diesel cars in the Indian market, and we are looking at the possibility of introducing more diesel engine options. But, we face some capacity constraints for expansion.
- Mr. S. Nakanishi (Managing Director, MSI) said.
MSI makes 2 lakh DDiS 1.3L diesel engines in the country, a few of which are exported to the its parent company Suzuki in Hungary.
Suzuki Motor Corp., the Maruti’s parent brand, sells a 1.6L diesel version of its SX4 car in Europe by taking engines from Fiat & Peugeot. In India, SX4 is available in petrol version only.
As per market specialists, Maruti’s growth of its diesel range is intended at stopping onslaught of their main challenger : Hyundai - that intends to introduce diesel versions of its i10 & i20.
