Maruti to Develop India’s First Dual Fuel Engine
Posted on October 5th 2009Welcome back!
Engineers at Maruti Suzuki’s Research & Development centre (Gurgaon) are getting ready to develop the first dual fuel (petrol-CNG) engine. This is going to help in decreasing the fuel bill to a quarter. In CNG mode, the engine will make use of the MPFI (Multi Point Fuel Injection) technology, same as that in petrol mode; it will reduce the loss of power & efficiency related with existing CNG (retro fitted) engines.
The current retro-fitted CNG engine provided fuel in just a single flow, failing to take the advantage of its multi point nature. But the dual fuel engine will carry a striking change in a way CNG cars operate on MPFI technology that transforms petrol fueled driving at the start of this century.
In duel fuel engine development technology, the gas will be injected into an engine through many points. For this, the gas injectors will be added into engine to spray the CNG, taking an advantage of higher pick-up because of higher power yield and fuel consumption reduction.
