The Car

This is an ideal people mover, an ideal ambulance, a perfect courier-delivery vehicle and much more than that. This is a basic, family transport vehicle at its cheapest best! A truly multi utility van for business purposes as well as for family use, the all new Maruti Omni is waiting for you. Maruti Omni is not new to the Indian roads and since my childhood I have seen the company upgrading the older models of the car. The last major facelift of Omni that I remember happened in 1997 and today Omni is available in the five sturdy avatars like 5seater, 8seater, Cargo, LPG and Ambulance.

Maruti launched the family version of Omni in India in 5seater and 8seater. The average Indian family seems to be shrinking by and by and so the 5 seater Omni version can be a perfect choice for the small Indian family as the vehicle meets most of the family needs.

Well, as regards the style quotient, I won’t rate the vehicle much. I don’t find the design that appealing and most importantly, if we look at the other cars in the market available today with the same price tag, the mono box design of Omni doesn’t look that appealing to me.

Otherwise Omni is an excellent workhorse; not heavy on your pocket either. Here are a few important exterior, interior and performance features of the car.

Exterior Features

Omni is a sturdy make with a simple boxy model with nothing important that could be mentioned under the exterior features’ column. However, it’s not just the exterior features of the make that decide the sales of the model. Omni has done quite well in the Indian hatchback market in the recent past and the car performance has been the most important deciding factor.

Maruti Omni MPI STD BSIV is a model which has been specially designed for the family travels and as a goods carrier. The front view of the vehicle is dynamic enough of catch the eye of the car lovers. The logo of the largest auto makers in India- Maruti Suzuki-has been placed right in the center of the smart front grille which gives that extra bit of trendy and sporty look to the car. Clear lens headlamps are rectangular in shape specially designed so that long journeys become a pleasure in this guiding light.

Maruti Omni MPI STD BSIV comes in six beautiful color shades like Superior White, Bright Red, Metallic Silky Silver, Metallic Icy Blue, Metallic Caribbean Blue and Metallic Crystal Gold. The sleek side graphics are a reason to appreciate. Nothing is goddy here; nothing exaggerated.

Maruti Omni MPI STD BSIV is a five seater hatchback version. Though a small car Omni offer you enough head and leg space. The sliding back doors and a hatchback are yet another exterior features here. A front mid engine rear wheel drive layout has been introduced in Omni, as it helps a great deal in maximizing the cabin and cargo space. This sort of layout also brings in maximum traction.

Interior Features

You don’t find anything complex and complicated in the interiors of the Maruti Omni MPI STD BSIV which play a complementary role to the simple exteriors of the vehicle. The designer dashboard and lockable glove box, cup holder, centre console and utility item, taxi meter and stereo space inside the Omni promise a comfortable journey. There is also a tachometer inside. The two tone upholstery and a two spoke smart steering wheel, too, look pretty attractive. I also found the instrument cluster pretty sporty. There are some basic safety features like brake assist, child safety locks and halogen headlamps incorporated in the make which should be called a bonus in such an inexpensive vehicle.

Performance

Maruti Omni MPI STD BSIV comes with the 0.8L 35bhp 4-stroke cycle, water cooled in line engine with the displacement of 796 cc. There are three cylinders fixed inside and four valves for each cylinder. The engine of the cargo van can generate the maximum power of 35 bhp at 5000 rpm and give the maximum torque of 6.1 kgm at 3000 rpm. Maruti Omni MPI STD BSIV engine comes with for speed manual gearbox which I would call an ordinary stuff as compared with many other makes in the market today.

The turning radius of the car is just 4.1 m. and this makes the car owner park the vehicle pretty easily in the parking slots. Moreover, even in the heavy city traffic driving Omni is certainly not drudgery. The van gives an awesome average of 13kmpl in the city while on the highways it gives the awesome average of around 19kmpl. The van is equipped with Radial tyres which are of immense importance in offering a smooth and comfortable ride. The car complies with all the BS IV emission norms.

Overview

When I stepped into Omni I found enough of space inside which is going to be first need of any family. The car come s with pretty simple sort of exterior and interior features; but there are plenty of things available here to fulfill nearly every family requirement. I think this is a nice choice for travelling along the long distances as well as for the everyday use. You can now easily go to your favorite weekend getaways along with your family in Omni.

This is truly a multi utility van for the business use and family use as well. You don’t find anything flamboyant here. Features like spacious glove compartment, two tone upholstery and stylish dashboard give a decent look to the car in and out and create some kind of an appealing effect. Clean straight lines of the simple exteriors of the van show improved body graphics, powerful clear-lens headlamps, rear cluster tail lights, back bumpers, built-in reversible lamps and many other premium features. Moreover, sliding doors prove to be an additional comfort while embarking and disembarking onto the van.

All in all, Maruti Omni MPI STD BSIV is a decent choice for an Indian family. The Ex showroom price of the car in New Delhi is Rs. 2,22,736. If you are looking for an inexpensive family car, Maruti Omni MPI STD BSIV is what you should go for.
