Maruti Increases Price; Would Others Follow Too!
Posted on August 3rd 2010Welcome back!
We had reported you about the sudden dip of up to 20% in the sales of the Maruti Suzuki models.
Now it seems that the same has taken a toll on the health of the auto major as it has decided to increase the cost of it’s almost all the models by 1-1.5 %.
The only model kept out from this wrath is none other than Alto, the highest selling car in India so far.
The increase, from the company sources, has been blamed at ‘Sharp increase in the input costs’, though.
Ironically, the company has decided to pass on the burden to its customers.
The approximate price revision on various models (Ex-Showroom- Delhi) ranges between 2,000 and 7,500 INR.
Though, the company has put its Alto out of this price hike but its being speculated that once the Alto K10 Series is unveiled, the prices of even these models would see a sleek steep.
This price rise came in as a shocking surprise for most of the auto buffs and on the same day Maruti reported its highest domestic sales for July sitting pretty with 90,114 units, a 33.65% increase when compared to 67,528 units in July, 2009.
We have decided to increase the price of our models mainly because of an increase in the input costs. We have decided to pass on the burden safely to our esteemed customers. Alto has been exempted from this price increase. We hope that our customers would agree with us and continue to support us with their unmatched support ever just like before.
An executive from the company sources was quoted as saying on the condition of being unnamed.
It would be interesting to observe in the coming days the moves of other players in the same league of business.
