Maruti’s Zen Brand to Go Off the Road!

India’s one of the oldest models Maruti Zen will be going off the road, after the launch of Maruti Suzuki’s Zen Estilo on 25th August’09.
Maruti Zen was introduced in 1993 and became most successful model of the company. It was one of the best sellers of the company. Maruti sold 8.8 lacs Zen cars till the date, which figures to over 10 percent of total 81 lacs cars old by the company till today. Other best seller models of the Maruti are : M800 (27 lacs), Alto (13.5 lacs) and Omni (12 lacs).
Every car has its own utility and its own branding. Our thrust with the new Estilo is on style, and not calling it a Zen is incidental. This is nothing to be emotional about as the Maruti Zen Estilo still has all the characteristics of the Zen. One should not expect the same level of performance or sales from every product as every car are unique on its own.

After 2006, Maruti Zen hasn’t been performing well, when the company had changed its old design and selected a new shape & design with new brand name as Zen Estilo. Monthly sales figure of Maruti Zen is only approx. 3000 units. This has forced the company to change the whole design of the model (interiors & exteriors) with new petrol engine.
