Mahindra sold more than 2800 units of Xylo in October 2009 alone. With the release of the latest version of Xylo, Mahindra has now introduced extra features like optional airbags and ABS system based on customer reviews and feedback. This move is a wise one considering the main competition to the Xylo, namely Innova, come with these safety features. Now let us take a deeper look at this SUV and lets see what makes this latest release from Mahindra one of the best value for money car on the market.

Engine :
Mahindra Xylo is equipped with the same engine as the newly launched Bolero Storm, but is fine tuned further to deliver more power and has been renamed from CRDe to M-Eagle CRDe. The engine generates a maximum power of 112bhp @ 3800rpm and a maximum torque of 240nm @ 1800-2800 rpm. The engine is powered by a manual five speed gearbox and is based on the Scorpio NEF CRDe engine but with the latest technological advancements integrated. The top mounted intercooler delivers an extra bit of power when the need arises. The engine is integrated with dual pilot injection system that increases he Xylo’s drivability. Along with advanced engine damping, hydraulic lash adjustor technology and auto tensioner, the Mahindra Xylo ensures great stability and decreased trips to the service centre.

The Xylo delivers a neat mileage of about 9-10kmpl on city roads and about 12-14kmpl on highways.

Handling and safety :
The Xylo handles like a monster as it zips down straight roads in ease. Its multi link suspension keeps the Xylo steady at high speeds while handling potholes and bad roads with disdain. The steering is great and turning tight corners is effortless. The gearbox can sometimes feel a little clunky and non responsive, but still is great value for price.

The Xylo is packed with advanced safety features which are fast becoming a standard on Indian roads. The car not only provides basic safety features such as seat belts and tilt able steering column but also incorporates special crumple zones to protect the occupants in the event of a crash. The recent additions of an ABS system and airbags make the Xylo even safer than Innova. The car is also equipped with an engine immobilizer which cuts the fuel supply to the engine on an unauthorized key being used, making it safer from thieves.

Design and Interiors :
The Xylo features a radiator grill with chrome slats, which although similar to ones on Scorpio or Bolero, make the car look like an aggressive mean machine. The higher end models are equipped with body color bumpers and integrated fog lamps. On the sides the vehicle shows off twin colored rear view mirrors and wrap around taillights on the back.

Viewed head on the Xylo looks a tad disappointing and out of shape when compared to Innova or Tavera, but over all has the look of a mean multi utility vehicle. Mahindra also offer dual shade paint option on their high end models.

A foot rest is also present to ensure comfort while getting in or out.

The Xylo is also equipped with high tech features such as the very geeky Digital Drive Assist System (DDAS). This system is powered by an onboard computer which calculates the car mileage as well as provides a reading of how much more distance can be covered. This system also provides other useful information such as the date, time, and relative humidity and inside and outside temperatures. The system also calculates the direction you are traveling in. With the press of a button you can find out you’re the speed and gear you are in. Conclusion :
The Xylo E8 is stylish and technologically advanced car, aggressively priced by Mahindra. Although the build quality is not as superior as that of the Innova it is much improved compared to the Scorpio or Bolero. For a price to features value the Mahindra Xylo E8 is an amazing car and a wonderful investment. Although if price isn’t an issue for you and you are extremely quality conscious the Innova is a better choice.
