Mahindra Riding High on SUVsIndia’s number-1 vehicle manufacturer, Mahindra & Mahindra has made record in April, with its three models taking top position in a domestic UV segment.

Mahindra’s three models’ sales (Bolero, Xylo & Scorpio) overtook Tata Sumo & Toyota Innova models in a last month.

Last month, its joint market shares stood at 65 percent compared with a 47 percent in same month year ago.

There is a lot of pent-up demand following the slowdown in October-December 2008. We will see the same momentum for the next few months. The fiscal stimulus and lower interest rates have fuelled consumer purchases. We are certainly cautious.

- Mr Goenka (President of M&M’s automotive section) said.

Mahindra has recorded 16 percent sales increase in April (including from JV) to the 22,617 units, as the elections increased demand for their Utility Vehicle products specially made for a rough land of the rural India.

In April, more than 6K Bolero were sold, with the recently unveiled Xylo selling the 3,509 units and Mahindra Scorpio - 3,100 units. Contrary to this, Toyota sold 2,834 cars of Innova, while Tata sold 1,642 units of Sumo (with 174 Grande’s units) and Safari’s 774 units.

The Mahindra Xylo maintains its strong drive since its introduction in Jan 2009 and has recorded its top sales in a month of April, said Mr. Rajesh Jejurikar (Chief of Opertaions in Mahindra’s auto division). So far, the company has distributed more than 10K Xylos and just increased the cost of Xylo by approx. Rs. 10,000.

According to Analysts, Mahindra has at all times been eager to become the strong Utility Vehicle player and that’s why the company has relocated the Scorpio and realigned cost of its additional 2 vehicles.

Great going Xylo. It is the great MUV on Indian roads. Its simple, uncomplicated and good quality drive. You don’t need anything else for a high selling vehicle in India.

Lots of variations and colours in the website. Xylo has been presented well from the beginning.
