The joint venture Mahindra-Renault had already launched a decent, reliable sedan- Logan. Logan was an attempt by Mahindra-Renault to adopt a highly successful European sedan model into the Indian markets. The performance was appreciated, however many believed that its looks were not very, so called, “eye-catching”. The car looks were described by many critics as so called “Boxy”. The manufacturers of the car assumed the popularity of the shape trend among Europeans, but could not persuade most of the Indian car buyers for this trend. It had a major impact at its sale. ![]() The Logan is however, back now with a new sporty variant, called Mahindra-Renault Logan Play. The manufacturers had already attempted to modify the Logan looks through few intermediated models and now they are headed to achieve dazzling appearances. The effort aimed seems mainly to fulfill the need for stylish look to the models launched prior. Highlighting Features:
The overall market breakthrough for Logan was not so overwhelming and as stated above, the major concern being its “Box” looks. The manufacturers noticed the concern and tried to improve the looks through Logan Collection Edition and Logan Edge. These were sincere efforts, though were mostly following elegant and executive appearances.
Comments- A bird’s view at the general statistics shows that the sedan is totally equipped for quite tough use, which often is the case with a sporty car. The high engine performances in terms of the power and torque adds up to the great passions of Logan Play. It has got petrol engine with an average fuel efficiency of 14.5 km/L, which of course, is quite good! The ratio of generated power to torque is admirable for use in and around city as well as at long highways. The external shape of the car is not much modified from its base ancestor model. The rear flat shape is modified a little bit. Introduction of alloy wheels is indeed the most striking feature in the outer look of the car. The alloy wheels are colored in red, which makes it feel as moving flame to observers. A sporty look certainly expects out of track or little unconventional features and the alloys plays the same role here!
Let’s have an interior look! It is a “spacious” car. The seats are much comfortable, covered with attractive fabrics. The shapes are designed, paying much attention at head and neck rest positions and are certainly quite suitable for journey longing for 4-5 hours. The positions and heights of the seats can be changed manually with the help of side-lever. ![]() The driving experience is first-rate and greatly pleasant. A torque of 110 Nm at 3000 rpm performs definitely superb at highways and good at city roads. The market has already seen certain fine sedans following a great combination of price and offered features. The TATA Indigo CS, Ford Icon, Ford Fiesta and Swift Dezire are few to mention. The new Logan Play has got capabilities to fetch a considerable market out of these pre-launches and to set up its own customer stack. Pros:
![]() Cons:
Bottom Line: The new attempt by Mahindra-Renault to promote the Logan adopting new stylish appearances is quite successful. The future sale will of course be a deciding factor for this. The performance of this sedan is up to the mark considering the price and the addition of technologies such as ABS and EBD has labeled it as a modern car. In short, Logan Play 1.4 GLX is a good deal with enough compensation for the cost. If you want a little sporty appearance with considerably good performance, then the new Logan Play could be a good choice!
