Mahindra and Renault Split
Posted on April 19th 2010Welcome back!

Yes the news is confirmed regarding the split of Mahindra and Renault. The reason for split was over a blame game between both the manufacturers. Sales figures were dropping drastically of the Logan and it resulted in creation of pandemonium situation between both the manufacturers. Mahindra had purchased 49% of stake in Renault which is still in partnership. The Logan is extinct in the market as the car did not attract buyers.
Till end of the current year the Logan will be sold with Renault logo. Next year the M&M badge will be seen on the car which can or might attract customers. There are chances where the car will be renamed when Mahindra takes over the product. Low sales are the main reason for the split. Since both of them were not doing fine in the Indian auto sector the reason for withdrawal is taken.

It was very evident that the 2 companies would part their own ways. In fact, most of the joint ventures do not work. ‘Too many cooks spoil the broth’. Renault is a good car company and has been doing well in the European market.
It’s a pity Indian consumers are attracted to the Japanese and the Korean car makers but what the Indian consumers do not assess is the ’safety’, ‘feel’, ‘ride quality’ & ‘build quality’. That’s the reason for the low sales figures of the European car makers compared to the Far-eastern’s. But, there are very few people who believe the European cars are the best to drive. I fall in this category and that’s why I drive a FIAT palio 1.6, though I am considering to purchase a new one now, I’ll look no further in buying a FIAT, again!
If only Renault thinks of a comeback as Renault itself and not with any Joint Venture, then Renault could do better. And for Mahindra, well I guess they should just concentrate on their Jeeps and their ’so called SUV’s..’!
