India’s First Plug-in Hybrid Car
Posted on June 13th 2008Welcome back!
“RV College of Engineering“, Bangalore newly revealed the model of India’s 1st hybrid plug in car.

This is exclusive collaborative effort between Industry and University to make possible experimental education leading to innovation. The car was built up under the ‘Chimera’ (code name) project as an energy efficient Hybrid Electric Car Vehicle. The name ‘Chimera’ is a mythological character or animal that has 2 or more different populations of hereditary different cells. The project was started by eleven engineering students, supported by the industries like REVA, National Instruments and Robert Bosch. The car will use both bio-diesel and electric energy, thus keeping eco-friendly label. The car features 440 cc diesel engine, on-board charging and hybrid controller.NI (National Instruments) provided the students with virtual instrumentation s/f, h/w and technical training for design as well testing of projects. The hybrid car is controlled by the automated hybrid controller which uses NI Lab VIEW – acting as a brain of the car.
It is these kinds of university-industry projects that facilitate Experiential Learning, i.e. learning by doing, among today’s engineering students. This is a concept that is pioneered by National Instruments and is proven to be the best approach to provide quality education. It helps bridge the gap between industry requirements and university learning, thereby taking the country on the path to a bright future.
