Indian Government to Impose Strict Rules on Fuel Economy Norms!
Posted on August 17th 2009Welcome back!
Presently India is lacking in the fuel economy norms and still no movements has been initiated to reform it, says Aanumita Roychowdhary (Asso. Director, CSE). The Center of Science & environment (CSE) has advised Government of India to implement strict rules for the fuel economy norms in country.
Energy Conservative Act is there in the country. Parliament has also ordered Energy Efficiency Bureau for strict fuel economy norms. But lack of proper implementation of rules is the main hurdle.
Roychowdhary also added that car industry in India has got away with the self-labeling, without meeting any official norms. Small car business in India is progressively changing to mid and large cars that shares 36% of total car sales at present, implying poorer fuel efficiency in the future.
Emission of carbon di-oxide (CO2) from cars in the country shares more than half of whole CO2 emitted by vehicles. Failure to build up the fuel economy norms is hurdle in achieving the aim of India becoming the car manufacturing hub.
