The Japanese Major two wheeler maker - Honda said that they are planning to exit a geared scooter segment in Indian market and will phase out 150cc version – Eterno – as it is planning to concentrate on a gearless segment.

Honda Activa

HMSI, the completely owned subsidiary of the Japanese company, launched all new version of gearless scooter – Activa. It is priced at 39,800/- (ex-showroom, New Delhi). With the launch of all-new Activa, the company is expecting 18% increase in their sales of two-wheelers in coming 2009-2010 year. According to company, it sold only 40,000 units of Eterno per year, which was very low count.

The Indian two-wheeler market witnessed a growth of five per cent in the current fiscal, whereas HMSI grew by about 17 per cent in the same period and we expect to keep this momentum. For the next fiscal, 2009-10, we have set a sales target of 12.5 lakh units in the Indian market, of which 7.4 lakh will be scooters and 5.1 lakh will be motorcycles.

- Mr. Shinji Aoyama (HMSI President & CEO) told reporters.

The all-new Activa is made keeping in mind the modern and modified requirements of young Indian customers. The company is planning to sell 5.5 lakh units of new Activa in the fiscal year 2009-2010.
