honda_logo.gifHMSI (Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India), which introduced their 3rd no-geared scooter, Aviator, earlier 2008, plans to roll out a non-100cc bike and another scooter before the 2008 end.

Mr. N K Ratan (Head of sales and marketing, HMSI) said that the latest motorcycle would be in the market prior to September.

We have not decided the cc as yet but this product would also be sporty. It is being developed by Honda R&D at Japan with crucial inputs from Indian engineers. It is meant for India, but this concept may be taken to other Honda markets as well in future. It has many sporty features like front disc brakes, alloy wheels etc to give it a very sporty look. We are already doing 8,000 units every month of the Aviator and are targeting sales of a lakh units this fiscal.

- Mr. Rattan said.

HMSI wants to go in 100cc segment by the turn of decade. After then, they would also have planned on a 2nd greenfield developing facility since the present one can go up to 12 lac units only.

HMSI has always had to compete with group industry Hero Honda Motors, which is a joint venture operation of Honda Motors and is acknowledged market leader in the entry level, 100cc motorcycle segment.

Mr. Ratan refused to comment, simply saying that Hero Honda and HMSI jointly control over 50 percent of the domestic 2-wheeler market and will go on combine efforts to keep this dominance.
