GM Launches Smarttech Engine in India

General Motors, one of the major auto players in the vibrant Indian automobile market has recently launched its Smarttech engine in India.
The Smarttech 1.2 Smarttech petrol mill that has been produced in General Motors’ technical center located in Bangalore will be transferred and will go under production in the American auto player’s Talegaon unit in Maharashtra.
The engine has been rolled out to reduce the weight and control the emission plus lowering the NVH levels as well.
New powertrain Smarttech is a product of R&D team effort and rigorous hours have been spent in validation, testing and designing. The company has introduced the engine to provide better performance on the Indian roads with its innovative design techniques. The powertrain shows the right potential of General Motors production and engineering capability in India
Karl Slym, the president and managing director of General Motors India was quipped as saying on the capabilities of the new engine.
India is an important market for the US auto giant. The company is aiming to match the global resources along with the increasing local capabilities to manufacture top class cars and engine which will capture the automobile markets in India
Tim Lee, president, international operations, General Motors was quoted as saying.
At present, General Motors is determined to introduce the Smarttech engine in its series of car models that will be offered in the domestic car market.
General Motors’ manufacturing facility in Talegaon is affixed with a plant’s production capacity of 1.6 lakh engines and once the second phase starts, it will have another 1.4 engines to be manufactured and they come to 3 lakh engines in all. General Motors also has extensive plans to push up its dealership network across India and not to forget the launch of their 6 new cars in 2011 having the new engine.
