Car maker Fiat India said that it will soon begin selling Linea car in Sri Lanka increasing its overseas presence.
“Fiat India Automobiles Ltd today announced its intent to increase its focus on exports, under which they have exported the Fiat Linea to Sri Lanka. In Sri Lanka, the inauguration is set for September 29, 2011,” the company said in a statement. The company has appointed Speed Italia as its distributor for the Sri Lankan market, it added.
The first collection of sedans, which will be exported to the island nation, includes almost 72 units among which 50 cars will be assigned to Sri Lankan. “The exports of the Linea to Sri Lanka (will) play a significant role in reaching out to the international markets and establishing our presence globally,” Fiat India chief executive officer Rajeev Kapoor said.
Export of Fiat Linea to Sri Lanka is only a step toward reaffirming the position of the company as an international auto giant. In Sri Lanka, the size of the car market is almost 20,000 units for every annum. Fiat India has the goal to capture a 5 percent share in the first year. Fiat Company has already begun exports of Linea car as well as Punto to Nepal and South Africa. Till now, it has exported almost 4,000 units. There is a fast drop in the sales of Fiat Linea although this can change in next few months considering plans of Fiat India to accompany in standalone Fiat dealerships for selling a wide variety of cars in India.
Until that happens, Fiat India is going to sell Linea car in other drive markets. Fiat India has first targeted the Sri Lanka market. Indian made Linea car will be exported first to Sri Lankan market. One can see 10 variants of Fiat Linea in India with 3 engine options. In spite of all the good things available in Fiat Linea, there is reduction in the sales of Linea. Hence, it has been decided by Fiat India to sell Linea in other RHD markets for making sure that its capacity does not go inactive at the Ranjangaon manufacturing plant.
Fiat India is supplying a range of both diesel and petrol engine to companies like Tata Motors and Maruti Suzuki. Petrol and diesel engine provided by Fiat used in several of the Maruti as well as Tata products. It means, Fiat India is earning more money as an engine supplier and not by selling its variety of cars. Furthermore, Linea can even be exported to a few other neighboring markets such as Australia and Bhutan.
When Fiat India started Linea Exports to Sri Lanka, it has been well received by the purchasers as well as auto enthusiasts In India since it has redefined the section with its stylish looks, precision engineering, best design and performance too. The main role of export of Linea sedan to Sri Lankan market is to teach out to the international markets and then establish their presence there worldwide.
