Electric Car REVAi Launched in Delhi

Posted on June 26th 2008

Welcome back!

In Delhi, Sheila Dikshit (Delhi Chief Minister) launched first electric car of India which has been built up after 13-years of study and development. According to CM, it is the ‘cute little car’ and was the green day for a city. This car will be the personal preference of CM and will be used for small distances.

Reva will be priced at Rs 2.99 lakh. Higher variants offered with AC, atmosphere control seats, anti-roll bars and scratch proof soaked panels and costs at Rs 3.78 lakh and Rs 3.49.Reva Elecric Car Company is now looking at licensing their vehicle technology to other car manufacturers. It is the one of the biggest carmakers of the electric cars in the world and currently they are exporting to 13 overseas markets in small numbers.

Reva’s plans for licensed making comes at the time when other global makers like Hyundai, Nissan, Suzuki, Toyota and Renault are using India as the hub for manufacturing low-costs vehicles.

Reva is looking at optimizing the potential of their original electric vehicle technology to crank out reasonable and environment friendly mobility keys.

We have a single-minded focus to develop and offer the finest technology in electric vehicles. We have developed the next generation Reva which travels 200 kilometres and attains a maximum speed of 120 km. Few carmakers have the expertise to develop electric vehicles and we are ready to licence the technology which will have high viability in developed markets like Europe and South-East Asia on the back of soaring fuel prices.

- Reva’s Deputy Chairman CK Maini told.

There are 2500+ Revas available on the road, of which approximately 1000 cars are in the United Kingdom only. They are planning to increase their production to 30000 units by the year-end. This will need investment of up to USD 20 million as they plans to enter fresh market.

We see a major increase in demand on the back of soaring fuel prices and high financial subsidy being offered by various state governments. State government initiatives to decongest urban centres will drive demand and our entry into Delhi is expected to bring good incremental numbers. We are expanding beyond Europe and will introduce Reva in South America and South-East Asia in the next few months.

- Mr Maini added.

The electric car from NICE looks very cool. Indian also has REVA from Maini, which is the sole player now but with the increasing concern about the environment. It is nice to know that REVA will be now available in Delhi too, hope it will be soon seen in other states too.

    Hi,

The second hand prices seem to vary quite a lot for REVAi according to this site - Mitula Cars India

Does anyone know a good guide to what we can expect to pay for second hand?
    Thanks in Advance
