Introduction

Use of CNG instead of petrol can be seen in most cities. One reason for the usage of CNG is cost. CNG is cheaper than petrol. CNG is one of the combustible gases which can help in running of engine. Now the question lies how and where can we get it installed and are it better then petrol. Well both the questions are valid and one of the important ones who use the car for daily use. For those who car is the primary requirements switching over to CNG is a preferable option.

The reason being saving cost of operation for daily use. You know the car will be used on daily purpose then why not install a unit which can be operated at a low price than the current one. Though you have made up your mind for the use of CNG kit then you need to know the basic operation techniques which can give better engine life and mostly increase your safety.

CNG or Petrol?????

This is the question which pops out to every car user. Well CNG is cheap and reliable and increases the safety. Most of the car manufacturers are giving CNG kit free with car. Let us see how CNG saves money and increases the life of an engine.

  • CNG stands for Compressed Natural gas which is used for running of engines. It is an alternative to petrol. It helps in low emission which is good for the environment and the car engine.
  • CNG can be refilled just life petrol in the car. Petrol is injected in the engine by spray or mist. Well that does damage some part of your engine. Especially at the time of combustion residue of petrol can be seen. But CNG is gas, its exit and entry is not water based. No residue can be seen in the combustion chamber. It immediately increases the life of your car engine.
  • Operation costs are less as CNG is less in the market. The average given by CNG is more in the same amount of petrol. For e.g. a Hyundai I10 average is around 16 to 17kmpl. With the use of CNG the average would be increased to 20-24kmpl. This is the advantage that will be given with the use of a CNG kit.
  • Technology is developing day by day and with the use of CNG kits you can easily switch over to petrol too. Italian kits are available which might be costly at times but you get the flexibility of switching over to petrol anytime. All you need to do is switch the mixture from CNG to petrol. This activity does not harm the engine at any point of time. Oops you just run out of CNG all you need to do is switch to petrol intake.
  • Use of CNG does improve safety concerns of various car makers. CNG combustible temperature is more than petrol. Even if it is leaking which is a rare case it will not ignite. It easily disperses in the air.

Unlike petrol chances of slipping are more and accidents are caused due to overspill of petrol. In this way CNG is better than petrol. For the Hyundai I10 this is the perfect move one can make. Use of CNG will not only be cheap but will increase the life of the engine. Apart from all the uses cleaning of the tank is necessary once a year. This is due to clean intake of gas in the combustion chamber. Most of the CNG kits come with additional warranty which covers all the damages if they are occurred during usage. For petrol use it is the typical method and costly too. Prices are rising in the country and this is the best alternative which can be used in the market.

Use of CNG kit is not only safe but affordable too. Long drives are not a problem when it comes to CNG kits.Petrol use is costly in the country and mostly it some what it damages the engine. A common example can be seen of a diesel cars or vans. They emit lot of smoke in to the atmosphere. The same is about petrol. About

CNG kit :

It does not emit any type of smoke which can cause environmental problems.

Do’s and don’t before installing a CNG kit

  • Check the dealer’s authentication before installing the kit. He must have certifications for installation of a CNG kit.
  • Incase of accident you need to check the CNG kit is in working condition or not.
  • Before buying the kit look for certification of the entire unit and make. You need to ensure the brand too.
  • Follow rules prescribed with the machine. It can be dangerous and risky for you and your surroundings if these rules are not followed. The use of CNG kit can be dangerous and accidents can take place if they are not followed.
  • Illegal use of CNG kit is not safe and against the law. You need to ensure the compatibility of CNG kit with your car. There are certain cars where modifications cannot be done. Installing a CNG kit in such cars will pose problems.
  • Fill up gas from a registered CNG supplier only.
  • At the time of servicing alert the mechanic of a CNG kit being installed in the car. This is useful because settings of supply of gas are done by the manufacturer and there is a need to change the settings after the kit is being installed. Change in these settings will result in wrong usage of the kit and might pose a problem.
  • Make sure you buy the kit only from one make. There should not be three to four buyers in the list of the entire CNG kit.

The Judge says

Go ahead and fit a kit on your car. You also need to check the warranty of the car if you wish to install the kit. Most of the cars obstruct the use of CNG kits and it results in void of warranty. If you are a new buyer then check if there is any factory CNG fitted car available or not. CNG version of Hyundai I10 is the new one in the block which has a CNG kit. On the new Chevrolet Beat which is being out from the factory yes it possible but alterations to the new engine will not be a good idea.

BUT FOR OLDER VERSIONS YOU CAN USE VENTURI KIT

CNG IS BEST OPTION FOR PETROL.. All of the BEAT,I10,INDIGO,WAGONR,etc. owners go ahead and get your car installed with the CNG kit if you require. Your car gives 300-320km run on a tank full of 10-11KG with your AC on. So your per km cost lies around 1.25 to 1.5 rs. In traffic areas full-tank gives you a 275 to 300 km run with AC on.
Just remember that fit the whole CNG kit of one brand only…

    FIT CNG & GO GREEN..!

    Regards,
    Abhishek.

If CNG is havin such great qualities, help in reducing air pollution, reliable, cheaper n safer why why it was not used in all cars.

  29. Vikram responded on 14 Mar 2012 at 1:42 am #

    Dear All,

CNG is surely the best option when it comes to the safety and reliability of the vehicle.

    > Its cheaper than Petrol
    > Availability is good now esp in Delhi, Mumbai, Gujarat and spreading soon to all the major cities
    > Much cleaner fuel almost reduces the pollution by 80-90%

Precaution - ONLY precaution is to use a Company Fitted CNG kit. Maruti, Tata are a few who are giving company fitted CNG cars and they use STAINLESS STEEL Tubes for the high pressure pipes which makes the car immune to any sort of mishaps.
