Chrysler has signed a deal with Tata Motors to produce electric vehicles in the US, started in late 2008 or early 2009.
In deal, Tata will provide its electric version of compact Ace pickup to Chrysler’s GEM (Global Electric Motors) unit. The product referred to as “neighborhood electric vehicle” having the battery powered Ace would not be street legal in the US, report suggested.
This vehicle do not have motor or gearbox, those will be fitted in the United State by GEM.
“Tata Motors is indeed exploring the possibility of a vehicle on the Ace platform, with an electric [motor] suitable for the U.S., in association with a U.S. company. But it is premature at this stage to furnish any details.” Tatas spokesperson said.
