General Motors is all set to take a big leap in the Indian mid-segment sedan market, with their new launch Chevrolet Aveo. This new sedan is currently made available with petrol engines, with capacity variants as 1.4L and 1.6L. We have described here the later one. The price range varies between 5, 90,000 to 7, and 80,000, depending upon the included features such as, ABS. Due to the great scope of choice between features and price range, the new Aveo is doing well at its market sale. The major rivals are the Mahindra-Renault Logan, Fiat Linea and Ford Fiesta.

Highlighting Features :

The new Aveo is a nice, stylish sedan, with a pretty cool exterior. Not only the shape, but also the varieties of color shades availability, excellent shine, trendy headlamps, body colored bumper, grip type door handles, all adds up to make Aveo’s exterior extremely attractive. Also the 1.6L, inline petrol engine is fitted in Aveo 1.6L, which produces a max power of 102 ps @ 5800 rpm. This is certainly enough to race with any of the executive class sedans.

The new Chevrolet Aveo

The design and styling of the Indian Chevrolet Aveo is based on the Daewoo Kalos. The most impressive thing about current GM cars seem to be the profile, like the Optra, the Vectra and so on; the Aveo is no exception, the profile is amongst the most pleasing I have come across thanks to the sloping roof and a well integrated C pillar. The Air conditioning on this car is top notch and one thing is especially noticed was the noise insulation; it almost cuts out the rest of the world as soon as you push all those windows up. The mirrors fold both ways, could come in handy if you are bit poor at reversing. Internal electric adjust is available in the top end model; but electric retract still isn’t.

Chevrolet Aveo is available with two different capacities petrol engine that delivers different level of engine performance, power and fuel efficiency. The first engine option is a 1.4L, 1399cc 16 valve, 4-Cylinder In-line petrol engine, with MPFI (Multi Point Fuel Injection) fuel injection system that produces 94PS of maximum power and 128Nm of maximum torque. Second one is the 1.6L, 1598cc, 16 Valve, 4-Cylinder, In-line petrol engine with MPFI fuel injection system and with five speed manual transmission gearbox and it delivers 102PS of maximum power with 149Nm of maximum torque. Two variants of Chevrolet Aveo are powered by this high performance engine.

The VGIS system which stands for Variable Geometry Intake System makes clever variations to the intake manifold length and geometry to make sure that the engine has optimum intake and exhaust back-pressure, this makes the Aveo torquey, very torquey. The gearbox we found was of slightly long throw, but the gear ratios have been designed to give ease of drivability both during city runs and on the highway. The major flaw of this gearbox though is in the way it shifts, sometimes the changes are rather notchy, something GM could really work on to make this car that much more desirable.

Bottom Line :

The new Chevrolet Aveo 1.6L, ABS, is surely one of its kinds. Most of the GM cars are among the toppers in providing the maximum possible features in its class and the price range. The Chevrolet is not an exception to this. This mid size sedan is well equipped with lavish interior with comfortable seating arrangement, new safety features such as ABS and Rear spoiler. Also the car has fabulous driving comforts such as tilt power steering, power windows, smooth transmission, etc.

In short, the car repays you perfectly in terms of performance and lavishness. What more to expect.
