Nissan Launches Diesel Variant of Sunny

The Japanese auto major, Nissan Motor India Private Limited launched a diesel version of its Sunny. The mid-sized sedan was introduced into the market very recently and the company hopes to increase its sales by launching the diesel variant of the model.  About 3000 units of the petrol version of the car have already been sold in the market ever since its petrol version was launched in the market. NISMO is the Nissan motorsports wing of Nissan Motor Company.The company has plans to launch products by NISMO in countries as its automotive sales are increasing. Nissan Will Manufacture Diesel Engines in India

Nissan plans to manufacture diesel engines in India in the coming year so that most of the components of its products will be manufactured in the country. The chief finance officer at Nissan Motors India Pvt. Ltd, Mr. Sunil Rekhi informed yesterday that “We plan to make diesel engines at our plant here so that the level of localization of all our vehicles goes up to 80 percent. The investment in the diesel plant will be part of our overall investment of around Rs.4,500 crore.” He added the production line of the plant is quite flexible and so the company need not do any major investment. The company might consider exporting these diesel engines in the future.

The Japanese auto major had set up a manufacturing unit at Oragadam, located near Chennai. This plant has been set up in alliance with its global partner, Renault, a French auto company, and the plant has a capacity to produce about 200,000 units per year. Continue Reading »

 Nissan Plans More Lunches in India

After the success of Sunny, Nissan now plans to launch four more models in the next twelve months. Although the Japanese car maker has launched only five cars in the past four years, it plans to innovate and introduce new models in the country. It also plans to launch a small car that would be priced well below Micra and will target the lower segment of 3.5 lakh; most of the car companies in India decipher this move as a drive to success in the country.

The various launches in the country have targeted various segments in the market. For instance, its Sunny is priced at around Rs 5.78 lakh and is a competitor of Chevrolet Aveo, Maruti SX4, and Fiat Linea. Micra, priced at Rs 4.8 lakh is competitor of Maruti Swift, Hyundai i20, Chevrolet Beat, Fiat Punto, Volswagen Polo and Ford Figo. Continue Reading »

Auto makers are all set to launch new models for India festival

The companies such as Tata Motors Ltd, Skoda Auto and Hyundai Motor Co are planning to introduce a slew of cars in India this month. These companies will introduce new cars because they want to win over customers and overturn a slowdown in sales in the biggest automobile market of Asia. A few other companies like Nissan Motor Co, Daimler AG, Honda Motor Co and Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd also started selling a few new cars as well as sport-utility vehicles in the month of September ahead of the Diwali season that will start in the month of October. Several consider Diwali festival as an auspicious time for purchasing consumer durables.

The small car Eon will be soon introduced by Hyundai Company in the middle of this month according to Arvind Saxena, director for marketing and sales in the Hyundai Company. He also said that this car will have an 814-cubic centimeter gasoline engine. The aim behind this gasoline engine is that the Hyundai Company wants to make it the small engine capacity car model for Hyundai throughout the world. Nissan Motors India has plans on the anvil to export Sunny to Africa and West Asia. The managing director, Kiminobu Tokuyama said that the company will start exports next year. The company feels that there is a huge demand for cars in these regions.

Sunny is one of the most versatile mid-sized sedans launched by Nissan. This hatchback that was launched last month by Nissan is expected to tap the markets in these regions. It is the second car to be built indigenously after Micra. It has many versions: the cost of XE is 5.78 lakh, the mid-range costs about 6.69 lakh and the top-notch model, XV costs about 7.68 lakh. Franco- Japanese auto partnership Renault Nissan Alliance India Pvt Ltd recently announced that it has passed the figure of 100,000 for manufacturing petrol engines last month and has already started making 1.5 liter petrol engines for Nissan’s new mid-sized sedan Sunny.

The Nissan Ashok Leyland Vehicles Ltd, a joint venture between Nissan and the Hinduja group have launched “Dost”, their first offering to the Indian customer. Dost is a small commercial vehicle which is meant to ferry load. The mass production of this vehicle has started at the company’s Honsur plant on 22 July 2011.
