General Motors will sign the agreement with Gov. of Maharashtra to set up engine and transmission plant. GM wants to be top runner in the rising Indian Auto Market as they intend to double their market share to 10 percent by 2010.
According to spokesperson, GM will begin the work at a Talegaon plant, where its 2nd vehicle plant is planned to initiate processes next week.

General Motors now planning to launch its all new the Chevrolet Cruze (Codename: GMX071), the mid sized sedan and will replace its Chevrolet Optra, a C-segment saloon in Indian market by mid of 2010. The Cruze was 1st revealed in the General Motors press conference in July’08. The car will make its official unveiling at Paris Motor Show in October’08.

GM will invest Rs 1000 crore to Rs 1200 crore to set up the powertrain making facility at their Talegaon plant near Pune.
The industry is expected to sign the memorandum of understanding with the government of Maharashtra for the reason within fortnight or so. The powertrain plant will have the capacity to create 2-lakh units/annum.
