General Motors is back with all new SUV Captiva. This car is likely to hit the Indian roads anytime in April’2012. It’s a new look Captiva with 2.2liter diesel engine and is expected to cost the customer between Rs.20lakhs to Rs.22lakhs. It has been decided that both Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation and General Motor’s India arm is going to develop vendor base. GM, General Motors India. US-based auto Company is planning to synergize operations with SAIC, Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation, Chinese partner to get the advantages and carry on the operations valuably and gainfully in world’s most leading and fast growing automobile markets. The Alliance is planning to develop a vendor base in India for supplying components to manufacturing units in China. The consideration of cross-shipping of vehicles is also made later.

“There are opportunities to synergize our operations further. The vehicles we are developing in collaboration with SAIC will have high localization levels. There is no reason why we can’t share suppliers and do cross-shipping of vehicles,” said Karl Slym, president and managing director, GM India.

There is some good news for customers who are looking to buy a Chevrolet Beat, now they can own the GM’s premium hatchback without worries of the ever escalating petrol prices. Say hello to the new Chevrolet Diesel Beat! The same looks, the same driving pleasure and the same attitude, surprisingly at a lower running cost. The diesel version of the Beat will be launched in Mumbai on July 25, 2011.
The President and Managing Director of General Motors India, Karl Slym confirmed the launch date while speaking to the media in Coimbatore. An ecstatic Slym told the reporters that the car is specially designed to cater to the taste of the Indian consumers. Although, Slym did not comment about the cost of the vehicle, he told reporters that it would have a 1L diesel engine and an improved ground clearance level. He said: “With fluctuation in fuel prices in India from time to time, the new diesel Beat, the prices of which will be announced at the launch will revolutionise the small car segment, with its engine capacity and fuel economy.”

When asked about the company’s future plans, Slym said that the company has already invested approximately 1.5 Billion US dollars in India and plans to invest about 250 Million US dollars each in their two plants Halol and Talegaon over the next 18 months. Slym also added that GM has established their design, manufacturing and development capabilities in India and owing to that they have become the fifth largest car manufacturer in India. General Motors, one of the major auto players in the vibrant Indian automobile market has recently launched its Smarttech engine in India.
The Smarttech 1.2 Smarttech petrol mill that has been produced in General Motors’ technical center located in Bangalore will be transferred and will go under production in the American auto player’s Talegaon unit in Maharashtra.

The company has geared up all the production lines for the make of this small dual fuel Chevrolet car and the speed lovers are keeping a close watch on the running costs so that they could choose from the smaller Spark LPG and the brand new Beat LPG. Chevrolet is very much likely to set new levels in sales and customer satisfaction as it promises a 3 year zero maintenance for its small car range.
The newly inaugurated Chevrolet Flexi-Line Power train Plant at Talegaon will soon start off with the production of the petrol engines followed by that of the small diesel engines. These diesel engines will power the Beat LPG. Beat is merrily going to be powered by a one litre 3-Cylinder common-rail turbocharged engine which comes from the Fiat-GM UniJet (JTD) range.
