In India, the month of August was a mixed month for auto makers due to boosted sales and others sold few cars as compared to previous year. India’s two largest auto makers such as Tata Motors Ltd and Maruti Suzuki India Ltd sold only some cars in the month of August because key car models were produced in fewer amounts and a slowdown in the market.
But, a few other like Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd, Hero MotoCrop Ltd and Toyota Motor Corp show growth in volumes. Asia’s No.3 automobile market has been also hit by a slowdown that posted record vehicle sales previous year as consumers have been insisted to postpone purchases due to the increase in the fuel prices and high loan rates. Analysts as well as companies are expecting sales to see a seasonal burst from the month of September because of a number of festivals and considered the best time for new purchase. Almost 91,442 vehicles have been sold by India’s largest car maker, Maruti in the month of august. A company spokesman said that Maruti producing some of its best demanded and best-selling Swift hatchback towards the end of the August month, because of labor issues at its north Indian plant.
Maruti, India’s biggest car maker halted the production of cars at Manesar plant that led to a drop in production of almost 2,400 cars. According to the spokesman, the company even produced some of its Alto hatchback due to the less demand. In the month of August, Local unit of Hyundai Motor Co sold 51,030 vehicles means only 1% more than a previous year. Local sales cut down 7 percent to 26,677 units, even of exports rose 11 percent to 24,353 autos. In August month, local unit of Toyato registered the sales of almost 11,693 vehicles means, 84 percent on year, chiefly on powerful demand for its models such as Etios model and Liva model.
Nearly 64,078 vehicles have been sold by Tata Motors in the month of August means 3 percent down on previous year. The sales of trucks and buses have been increases like from 21 percent to 43,045 units but car sells fell 33 percent to 16,829. In August month, nearly 1,202 unites of Nano Mini car have been sold by Tata Motors means down 85 percent on year since its west India factory was close for 2 weeks for regular maintenance. Exports fell 18 percent to 4,204 vehicles.
India’s largest sports utility vehicle maker Mahindra sold 37,684 vehicles in the august month means up 30 percent on year. The maker of Scorpio, Bolero and Xylo models exported nearly 1.928 autos, up 18 percent on year. One of the India’s largest motorcycle makers by sales, Hero MotoCorp posted 19 percent growth to 503,654 units.
The demand for two- wheels has continued in the country in spite of industry slow down due to their affordable price tags, easy mobility in Indian roads and fuel effectiveness. TVS Motor Co sold almost 194,898 units in the month of August up 14 percent on year.
