Proton Set to Drive in to India

proton-logo.jpgProton the Malaysian national car manufacturer has finalized their plans for India and is all set to enter the Indian market.

The industry has chose the 1.2L five-door mini car Savvy, the 1.3L entry level sedan Saga and 1.6L 2nd generation Persona for the country’r market.

These 3-models are presently undergoing field tests and technical evaluation at different locations here. Proton’s 2-day clinic (technical) on these cars concluded at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi last Sat. these car models will be launched in phases, and may hit the Indian market early 2009.

Nano Making could be Delayed due to Land Clashes

Tata, the Indian car manufacturer selected an area in Singur, India for the factory that would build the Nano, the cheapest car of the world. But, 11-petitions were filed in a Calcutta High Court saying that the buy of this land for the plant violated the 1894’s Land Acquisition Act.

New Car Duty won’t Hit the Premium Car Sales

The auto companies doesn’t see the extra specific duty impose on the big cars impacting sales. However, company representatives believe sales may be hit in the case of MUVs and SUVs that also serve as transportation in rural areas.

On Friday, the Center imposed the specific duty of Rs 15K on cars with the engine size of 1500 to 1999cc and Rs 20K on the cars above 2000cc. This was on the top of the existing 24% ad excise duty. The vehicles such as Hyundai Verna and Ford Fusion and those in a super luxury segment including a S-Class of Mercedes and a 7-series prototypes of BMW.

Tips to Save Fuel

Here are some of the tips to save fuel in your car.
Fuel Saving Tips

  1. Avoid sudden acceleration and drive smoothly, it will give you maximum mileage. So be little smooth on your right leg.
  2. Do not drive with your leg on the clutch. It consumes more fuel and clutch plates also get worn out
  3. While stopping at a traffic signal, if the waiting time is more than one minute, switch off the engine.
  4. when driving above 80 or 90 kmph, its more fuel efficient to keep the windows closed and AC running, instead of AC off and windows open.
  5. Regularly engine maintenance is a must. It can change your fuel efficiency up-to 20%
  6. Use air conditioning only when you need it. It uses up-to 12% of extra fuel.
  7. Change engine oil and air filters as described in your car’s manual.

  9. Right pressures in all the tyres can also change your fuel efficiency. So make sure you have the pressure prescribed by the car company.
